Palace have opened negotiations with German winger Marco Reich with a view to offering the player an extended contract.

The midfielder has been on top form since joining Palace last month as a free agent, but his short term contract runs out in January.

Iain Dowie is understandably keen to secure the player on a longer deal, and the Eagles boss is confident Reich will soon put pen to paper.

"Me and Marco have a very good relationship and I would be amazed if he chose to leave this place," Dowie told the Croydon Advertiser.

"He has done well for us, but we have done well for him. We have looked after him, got him fit and he's starting. I've talked to him about his role and he understands it better.

"He enjoys it and he is learning. I like him."
