Palace set to complete Morrison signing

Palace will confirm the re-signing of Clinton Morrison tomorrow after the player agreed terms on a move from Birmingham City.

Morrison’s signature had been pursued by Norwich and Southampton, with both clubs prepared to match Palace’s £2 million bid.

But the Irish international will return to Selhurst Park to link up with Andrew Johnson – the player Birmingham included as a makeweight in the deal that took Morrison to St Andrews in 2002.

The majority of Palace fans will be delighted to see the return of one of our most successful strikers of recent years.

Eagles boss Iain Dowie has no doubt 26-year-old Morrison will win over the few Palace fans who still begrudge the striker for following Steve Bruce to Birmingham.

"I wouldn't take the reaction of the fans as a factor in which player I sign," said Palace boss Iain Dowie.

"As a manager you have to be brave enough to make decisions you think are right. Decisions made on the transfer front will be what I consider to be right for the club.

"But I would be amazed if he didn't get a good reaction when he comes back to the club. He has scored a lot of goals for the club and he deserves a good reaction."
